Cards for Seniors 2020

WE DID IT!

500+ Christmas Cards and 6 Senior Residences!

This year was unprecedented; whether it be the 1.7 million lives lost to COVID-19 or the global quarantine measures, we didn’t plan on continuing our Christmas card drive this year. One week into December, we made a snap decision to keep up our Christmas tradition and reached out to a few senior homes - expecting very few card donations and even less volunteers. It’s been 2 weeks, and while we don’t have a formal count of volunteers, we’ve received over 500 cards! Even more so than previous years, we owe our success to all of you who reached out and offered your continued support.

We’d like to give a special shoutout to Mary and Little Flower Academy (Library Monitors and the Mental Health and Wellness Club). Our team is so thankful to you for always supporting us; whether it be letting us borrow the library for our meetings or sending dozens of Christmas cards our way, CFH would not be here today if not for you. As well, we’d like to dedicate special appreciation to Kishoore and the Tomorrow's Topkids Child Care Society. Thank you for bringing us hundreds of cards every year and for reaching out to support us time and time again. Majority of our card collection this year was from him, and his kindness is incomparable.

This year, we had the opportunity to visit Courtyard Gardens, Gilmore Gardens, Lions Senior Care Home, and the Ukrainian Senior Citizen Housing of Ivan Franko Society.  We also gave cards to Pinegrove Place and at the Austin Harris Residence (alongside the Jackson Lam Adult Daycare Centre) - thank you for your support from the very beginning.  You’ve watched us grow these past four years from high school seniors to university students, and we can’t wait to walk the rest of our journey as students with a handful of cards to share.

As our BC lockdown continues, we’d like to remind everyone to wear a mask and to wash their hands. The holiday season might not be as vivacious without loud parties and family gatherings, but the Christmas spirit is still in the air. Stay socially distanced, stay safe, and stay kind to one another. We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and warm holidays!

[Flyer] Cards for Seniors 2020

In light of the current global Covid-19 pandemic we are faced with, we have adjusted our annual card drive accordingly with the proper safety precautions. This year, we will be running a smaller sized operation in response to this.

If you're interested in volunteering and bringing the holiday spirit to local senior homes, our 4th annual card drive's details are as follow:

🎄LOOKING FOR: Homemade (or store brought) holiday card(s) appropriate for any seniors

🎄 HOW MANY? No limit, amount is up to the volunteer

🎄 WHEN: as soon as possible!

🎄 SIGN UP: message our Facebook/Instagram page, or one of our team members directly

A team member will contact you for no-contact card pick-up arrangements later!

We'll be dropping off Christmas cards to three senior residences that have previously partnered with us (Pinegrove Place, Austin Harris Residence, and the Ukrainian Senior Citizen Housing of Ivan Franko Society). All of our card deliveries will be zero-contact - which means that, unfortunately, we will not be handing out the cards personally this year. We will be gathering the card designs, writing in them, and bagging them for each senior residence. Senior residences are areas of high-risk for COVID-19, so our team members will go individually to deliver the bag of cards.
